Dahi Vada

Easy to make recipe of Dahi Vadas or lentil dumplings soaked in yoghurt. A flavorful and light appetizer!

Dahi Vada Recipe
 
Ingredients for Dahi Vada:
 
Urad Dal (Split black gram skinless) – 1 Cup
Water – 3 Tbsp
Ginger – ½ inch piece
Green chilli – 1 nos
Hing (Asafoetida) – a pinch
Cumin seeds – 1 Tsp
Salt – ½ Tsp
Raisins – 1 Tbsp
Oil – for frying
Yoghurt – 3 Cups
Sugar – 3 tbsp
Sweet chutney – a few tbsps. (optional)
Green chutney – a few tbsps. (optional)
Roasted cumin powder – a pinch
Red chilli powder – a pinch
Cilantro – for garnish
 

Method:

1. Soak Urad dal overnight.
2. Next day blend urad dal, water, ginger, green chilli, hing and cumin seeds together into a coarse paste. Mix in raisins as well.
3. Fry the vadas on medium heat until crispy.
4. Soak them in water so they become soft. You can also soak them in yoghurt water.
5. In the meantime, mix yoghurt and sugar, keep aside.
6. To serve, squeeze out water from the vadas and put them in a bowl. Put a generous layer of yoghurt mixture, sweet chutney (optional), green chutney (optional), topped with another layer of yoghurt. Sprinkle some roasted cumin powder and red chilli powder. Garnish with Cilantro and serve.
