Green Moong Dal

A perfect recipe for a quick lunch or dinner. Comfort food served with rice or chapati. 

Ingredients for Green Moong dal:

Green Moong Dal (Split Green Gram) – 1 Cup
Water – 3 Cups
Turmeric Powder – ½ Tsp
Red Chilli Powder – 1 Tsp
Salt – 1 Tsp
Garam Masala Powder – ½ Tsp
Hing (Asafoetida) – a pinch
Cumin seeds – ½ Tsp
Mustard seeds – ½ Tsp
Cilantro – for garnish

Method:

  1. Soak Green Moong dal overnight or at least for 3 hours or overnight.
  2. Press sauté on instant pot.
  3. Heat oil, add mustard seeds, cumin seeds and hing.
  4. Once they splutter, add the green moong dal. Mix well.
  5. Now add Turmeric Powder, Salt, Garam Masala Powder and Red Chilli Powder.
  6. Mix well, close instant pot.
  7. Cancel sauté; press Beans chilli setting for 20 minutes.
  8. Let the pressure release by natural release (NPR)
  9. Mix well, add chopped cilantro and serve hot with rice or chapatis.

TIP:

*If using a pressure cooker: follow the exact recipe and cook on medium heat for 3 whistles. When the pressure releases naturally, open the lid.

*If cooking in a pot: Cover and cook on medium flame until the beans are tender.
