Gavar/ Cluster Beans

Three versions of preparing Cluster Beans/Gavar recipe. Not many people like to eat this vegetable, but I’m sure you’ll like at least one of the versions I have prepared. I have learnt all three recipes from my mom and like many people even I never ate this until my mom made a new version with garlic and potatoes. I think I can eat garlic with anything! Enjoy the recipe and let us know which version is the best.

Method 1:

Ingredients:

Cluster Beans/Gavar – 1 Cup
Potato – ½ cubed
Garlic – 5-6 cloves crushed
Kashmiri Red Chili Powder – ½ Tbsp
Turmeric – ¼ Tsp
Salt – ½ Tsp
Cilantro – chopped to garnish
Oil – 2 Tbsp
Water – ¼ Cup

Method:

1.    Heat Oil, add crushed garlic and stir for a minute on medium heat.
2.    Add cluster beans/gavar and cubed potatoes, kashmiri red chili powder, turmeric & salt. Stir well.
3.    Add water, cover and cook for 10-15 minutes on medium heat or until potatoes are cooked.
4.    Garnish with cilantro and Serve hot with chapatis or plain dal and rice.

Method 2:

Ingredients:

Cluster Beans/Gavar – 1 Cup
Potato – ½ cubed
Oil – 2 Tbsp
Mustard Seeds – ½ Tsp
Cumin Seeds – ½ Tsp
Asafoetida/Hing – ¼ Tsp
Kashmiri Red Chili Powder – ½ Tbsp
Turmeric – ¼ Tsp
Salt – ½ Tsp
Grsted Coconut – 1 Tbsp
Cilantro – chopped to garnish
Water – ¼ Cup

Method:

1.    Heat Oil, add hing, mustard seeds & cumin seeds & let them splutter on medium heat.
2.    Add cluster beans/gavar and cubed potatoes, kashmiri red chili powder, turmeric & salt. Stir well on medium heat.
3.    Add water, cover and cook for 10-15 minutes on medium heat or until potatoes are cooked.
4.    Garnish with cilantro, grated and Serve hot with chapatis or plain dal and rice.

Method 3:

Ingredients:

Cluster Beans/Gavar – 1 Cup
Potato – ½ cubed
Baby Eggplant – 3 cubed
Green Peas – ½ Cup
Oil – 2 Tbsp
Asafoetida/Hing – ¼ Tsp
Mustard Seeds – ½ Tsp
Cumin Seeds – ½ Tsp
Kashmiri Red Chili Powder – ½ Tbsp
Turmeric – ¼ Tsp
Coriander Cumin Powder – ½ Tsp
Garam Masala – ½ Tsp
Salt – ½ Tsp
Curry Leaves – a sprig
Cilantro – chopped to garnish
Water – ¼ Cup

Method:

1.    Heat Oil, add hing, mustard seeds & cumin seeds, curry leaves & let them splutter on medium heat.
2.    Add cluster beans/gavar and cubed potatoes, cubed baby eggplant, green peas, kashmiri red chili powder, turmeric, coriander cumin powder, garam masala powder & salt. Stir well on medium heat.
3.    Add water, cover and cook for 10-15 minutes on medium heat or until potatoes are cooked.
4.    Garnish with cilantro, grated and Serve hot with chapatis or plain dal and rice.
