Dal Palak/ Spinach Dal / Lentil & Spinach

A wholesome meal in itself with the goodness of greens and proteins. Easy to make preparation, I’m sure you will love this dal palak/spinach lentil recipe.

Ingredients for Dal Palak:

Toor Dal/Tuvar Dal – 1 Cup
Water – 3 Cups
Tomato – 1 chopped
Salt – 2 Tsp
Turmeric – ½ Tsp
Ghee – 1 Tbsp
Garlic Cloves – 3 crushed
Frozen/Fresh baby spinach – a handful
Cumin seeds – 1 Tsp
Red Chilli Powder – ½ Tbsp
Garam Masala – 1 Tsp
Coriander Cumin Powder – ½ Tbsp
Water – ½ Cup

For tempering:
Ghee – 1 Tbsp
Hing/Asafoetida – ¼ Tsp
Cumin seeds – ¼ Tsp
Red Chilli Powder – ¼ Tsp
Garlic – 1 clove chopped

Method:

1. Boil the lentil with turmeric powder, salt, tomato and 3 cups of water in a pressure cooker for 3-4 whistles. Release pressure naturally, stir well & keep aside.
2. Heat ghee in a pan, add cumin seeds & hing. Once they start crackling, add crushed garlic, sauté & add spinach.
3. Add coriander cumin powder, red chilli powder & red chilli powder.
4. Mix well and add water. Cook for about 3 minutes.
5. Now add the cooked dal and bring it to a boil.
6. Prepare tempering: Heat ghee, hing, cumin seeds, red chilli powder and chopped garlic.
7. Pour the tempering/tadka on the dal.
8. Serve hot with rice and rotis!
