Prawns Masala

My mom’s recipe to make the most delicious prawn masala. It’s a simple and easy recipe to make and can be put together in minutes.

Ingredients for Prawns Masala:

Prawns – 1 kg deveined & cleaned
Oil – 4 Tbsp
Onion – 2 big finely chopped
Tomatoes – 2 big finely chopped
Ginger Garlic Paste – 2 Tbsp
Green Chilly – 2 finely chopped
Coriander Cumin Powder – 1 ½ Tbsp
Red Chilly Powder – 1 Tbsp
Salt – ¾ Tbsp
Turmeric Powder – 1 tsp
Garam Masala – 1Tsp
Malvani Masala – ½ Tbsp (Optional)
Water – ½ Cup
Curry Leaves – 8-10
Kokum – 2 (Optional)

Method:

1. Heat oil in a pan on high heat.
2. Add finely chopped onions and sauté well.
3. Now add salt and mix well.
4. Cover & Cook for 3-4 minutes on high heat.
5. Now add ginger garlic paste and mix well.
6. Add green chillis and finely chopped tomatoes. Mix well, cover & cook for 3-4 minutes.
7. Add red chilly powder, turmeric powder, coriander cumin powder & malvani masala.
8. Mix well and add water. Cover & cook for 5 minutes until oil separates on medium heat.
9. Add curry leaves and kokum.
10. Now add cleaned and deveined prawns.
11. Cover & cook for 10 minutes.
12. Then cook uncovered for 10 minutes more until oil separates.
13. Now finish by adding chopped cilantro and garam masala.
14. Serve hot with phulkas, rotis, naans or just plain rice.
